Challenge

The AJHL website serves as a central index of information related to all of the member teams within the league. This leads to extremely heavy traffic to the site during the hockey season, especially during playoffs. The AJHL site admistrators had several requirements in the development of their new site, ranging from ease of use when adding News articles, to quick updates and simplified integration of real-time statistics data from a third-party system.

They were also faced with a daunting task of standardizing all team websites within the leage to include links to all the other teams; without having direct administrative access to each team website.

Solution

Impello developed a new, flexible layout that is focussed on News and Statistics. The CMS implementation provides for quick, automated formatting of images as part of the News Article editing process, and a simplified template based solution for integrating third party statistics information.

Highly optimized page display components were developed to minimize load on the website server during peak-traffic periods.

A customized content component was also developed in the form of a JavaScript element, that was delivered as three lines of code to all teams for addition to their sites. This made the process of adding a centrally managed content element available to all team websites quick and easy to deploy.

Delivery

The AJHL website has experienced consistent growth in traffic since the launch of the new website, along with a significant decrease in overall hosting costs. The News administration tool has allowed the AJHL to increase the frequency of their updates that make excellent use of event photography.
