The Challenge

The SAIT Trojans administrative staff faced a huge problem when it came to keeping their website up-to-date. With 7 team divisions, each with Men and Women's sub-divisions, the Trojans are one of the largest collegiate athletic programs in Canada. With an extremely active events lineup and a constantly changing team roster, the website could become quickly out of date.

The existing file-based website was too cumbersome to maintain, with all of the information stored across thousands of HTML files. As a result, the design of the website began to suffer as regular edits introduced errors to pages . As a premiere athletics program, the Trojans needed a new website they could rely on to keep fans and players up to date, and look good while doing it.

The Solution

Starting with our core PlutoniumCMS system, Impello designed an extensive set of customized administrative tools that allowed the central management of everything from one place. All events, teams, player information, game stats and news were integrated into a single, easy to manage system. An image management system was created that automatically re-sized, optimized and organized all photos, and a automatic home-page pulls the most recent information to the fore.

An exciting and creative design was developed, making use of photography produced by SAIT students, and taking visual cues from professional sport team websites . The design was then integrated with the extensively customized CMS system to produce a great looking website that can be kept up to date with a minimal level of effort from the Trojans administrative staff.

The end result is an extremely detailed website, that accurately represents the brand character of the SAIT Trojans - Courage Determination Spirit. Web traffic to the site has increased dramatically, as it has become a reliable and enjoyable place to find out the latest news on all the Trojans teams.
